End of life dates for supported database versions

SQLite

The SQLite version that ships with the Windows and macOS installers are:

  • Python 3.5 - 3.8.11
  • Python 3.6 - 3.14.2
  • Python 3.7 - 3.21.0
  • Python 3.8 - 3.28.0
  • Python 3.9 - 3.34.0
  • Python 3.10 - 3.35.4
  • Python 3.11 - 3.45.1
  • Python 3.12 - 3.45.3
  • Python 3.13 - 3.45.3

Search the Python Changelog for "SQLite" to find entries like "Update Windows build and OS X installers to use SQLite 3.14.2."

To find the exact SQLite version, search for "sqlite" in the installer files for Windows and macOS in the CPython repository. Use the branch/tag selector to specify the Python version.

The SQLite version that ships with Debian and Ubuntu are:

  • Debian 11 (bullseye): 3.34.1
  • Debian 12 (bookworm): 3.40.1
  • Ubuntu 20.04 (focal): 3.31.1
  • Ubuntu 22.04 (jammy): 3.37.2
  • Ubuntu 24.04 (noble): 3.45.1

Generally, Django supports SQLite versions for about 5 years since the SQLite release. The minimum supported SQLite version is also based on the minimum of the versions found in the oldest supported Python, Debian, and Ubuntu. In addition, we evaluate the benefits (such as new features or code cleanups) before dropping support of older SQLite versions. See past tickets for reference on how we bump the minimum supported SQLite version.
